Positively standing on the frontier of UK underground producers, Teddy Music has always vowed to unleash nothing but musical havoc on the Grime scene. With his unrepentant use of 808s, oscillating synths and the oh-so-familiar trademark ‘Teeed-dy!’ vocal – his beats are as identifiable as the artists that vocal them. Hailed as one of most significant men of the Grime genre today, Teddy has worked with them all.
Having started his career in 2003, aged a mere 14 years old under the pseudonym DJ Silencer, the East London resident began to hone his mixing and production skills at local youth clubs. Practice most certainly made perfect, by the age of 17 DJ Silencer was already putting a firm stamp on the underground scene with his perfected abilities. This led Teddy into a slot on London’s premier pirate (now legal) radio station Rinse FM, which had previously nurtured the talents of Wiley, Roll Deep, along with a young Dizzee Rascal.
Always one to experiment and collaborate musically, Teddy and a group of childhood friends soon formed collective “Underground unit” where he took the helm as lead producer. Soon after, Teddy clinched production credits on albums for Grime heavyweights Skepta, Lethal Bizzle, JME and D Double E whilst building up a solid remix reputation churning out remixes for N Dubz, DJ Ironik plus more.
Despite the wealth of exposure gained from previous releases, it was the awkwardly bouncy instrumental “World War 4” that caught the attentions of specialist DJs, bloggers/journalists and fans alike. WW4 along with 3 further bass infused instrumental albums (All independently released) and were campaigned by the likes of Logan Sama (Kiss FM), Tim Westwood (BBC Radio 1 & 1xtra) and DJ Cameo (1xtra) to mention a few gaining Teddy heavy rotation on many commercial radio stations.
Teddy has since continued to release incredible independent music including the Wow Bass series (Levels 1-5), Selecta Vol 1, Grime – The Compilation whilst producing tracks for Boy Better Know, P Money, Scorcher, Tinchy Stryder, Ghetts, Tempa T, Griminal, and the list is endless. His remake of Lethal Bizzle’s infamous Grime anthem “Pow” charted at number 33 on the national charts.
Teddy also captivated his online audience when collaborating with none other than Jamal Edwards for his episode of SBTV’s “Producers House” giving fans an insight to life in the studio with the man himself.
Teddy currently stands as one of the most influential UK Urban producers having recently produced highly championed collaboration from Boy Better Know & Krept & Konan “Boy Better Play Dirty boasting his production versatility. Also not one to ignore fresh new talent, Teddy has embraced and supported the new wave of MCs in Grime including artists like Kozzie & Merky Ace having produced many tracks for them including his latest single release “Rage”.
Arguably one of the best producers on the scene, Teddy is in no rush to lose his title.
